|Track:||05: Informed, Involved, and Inspired: Engaging Students Around Sustainability|
|Full Description:||FCPS empowers students to serve on the front lines of sustainability as lead decision-makers, project designers and culture changers by equipping them with the data necessary to make informed decisions about their campus. Learn how to align your sustainability efforts to instructional goals and follow students' lead to create greener, healthier classrooms through energy teams, a district Sustainability Scorecard metrics system, strategic Listening Sessions, Farm To School, aquaponics and more.
This session will start with a brief how-to on moving from sustainability as an after-thought to sustainability as a district priority by capitalizing on student leadership. Our data-driven, interactive presentation will walk audience members through our 6-step sustainability curriculum (E=USE2, Education leads to Understanding Sustainability, Energy and the Environment) that trains student teams on energy engineering, behavior change and project design by purposefully using 21st century skills and providing real-world applications. Audience members will walk away with tools-in-hand to implement STEAM-infused sustainability curriculum from the classroom to the Boardroom such as our E=USE2 program manual, Sustainability Scorecard matrix, Listening Session worksheets, Green Building Dashboard webquest, Compost Manual for Schools, Rain Garden Manual for Schools, No Idling spreadsheets and more.
